Situata all'interno dell'odierno Dipartimento di Giurisprudenza, l'Aula Magna dell'Università di Palermo è stata progettata dall'architetto Antonio Zanca che firma nel 1929 il progetto esecutivo di un ambiente neo-settecentesco dotato di mobilio e decorazioni pittoriche sulle pareti. Nel 1934 è stato indetto un concorso nazionale per l'affidamento delle decorazioni pittoriche vinto da Arduino Angelucci e Manlio Giarrizzo cui spettano rispettivamente la volta e le pareti. In the wide scenario of herbaria housed in the Italian Universities there are very few examples of structures mainly devoted to forest sciences and fungi in forest ecosystems. The “Regio Istituto Superiore Forestale di Vallombrosa” (Tuscany), established in 1869, was the first example of a structure that housed an herbarium with exsiccata of forest trees. In Italy, the southernmost laurea degree course in “Environmental and Forest Sciences” concern the Department of Agricultural and Forest Sciences in the University of Palermo (Sicily). The Department Cultures and Societies of the University of Palermo in Italy owns a collection of forty plaster casts of ancient sculpture, dating back to the age of the academic teaching of Antonino Salinas (1841- 1914). In the intentions of the great archaeologist of Palermo, the plaster cast collection was of unavoidable help to teach classical art, in line with the contemporary usages of the Italian and foreign Universities. Two Borderline Works: The Miniature Classical Friezes by John Henning

The plaster replicas of two miniaturized reproductions of the Parthenon and Bassae friezes are preserved at the Plaster Cast Gallery of the Department Cultures and Societies of the University of Palermo. The original reproductions were made by the Scottish carver John Henning in the first decades of the 19th century. These artefacts, although they have seldom captured the attention of the archaeologists, are of particular interest and from manifold points of view.

Nel quadro dell’esperienza della «Clinica legale per i diritti umani» dell’Università di Palermo (Cledu), il contributo tratta di alcune azioni specifiche condotte nei suoi primi anni di lavoro nell’ottica della costruzione di un “modello” di intervento sistemico, per poi descriverne la necessaria rimodulazione in risposta ai veloci mutamenti politico-normativi del periodo più recente. Sarà così possibile porre in luce alcune caratteristiche dell’approccio clinico-legale nell’Italia contemporanea, e del ruolo del giurista ad esso connesso.

Paolo Balsamo -economist and professor of University of Palermo from 1787 to 1812- was a traveller and expert in the most advanced and modern British and European agriculture. He wrote articles and essays, both in English and Italian, on agriculture and political economy and was a correspondent of important cultural and political circles of British Whiggism.
